Improved molten salt technology is increasing the efficiency and storage capacity of solar power plants while reducing the costs of solar thermal energy.  Molten salt is used as a heat transfer fluid (HTF) and thermal energy storage (TES) in solar power plants. Operators can take advantage of a new calcium-potassium-sodium-nitrate-based ternary molten salt mixture introduced by Yara. This low-melting point (131°C) ternary molten salt mixture can be used both as a heat transfer fluid and for thermal energy storage for concentrated solar power plants.  It is also designed to be used in all other thermodynamic power units, where medium to high temperatures must be transported and/or stored.

The IDDP was founded in the year 2000 by a consortium of three Icelandic energy companies: (Hitaveita Sudurnesja (HS) (since 2008: HS Orka hf), Landsvirkjun (LV) and Orkuveita Reykjavíkur (OR)), and Orkustofnun (OS), the National Energy Authority of Iceland. The consortium began by preparing the drilling of a 4-5 km deep drill hole into one of its high-temperature hydrothermal system in order to reach 400-600°C hot supercritical hydrous fluid at a rifted plate margin on a mid-ocean ridge. A feasibility report was completed in 2003. The IDDP is a long term research and development project which will take a decade or two to conclude. As yet, IDDP is therefore not an alternative solution to meet energy demand in the near or intermediate future.

Guatemala No Se Detiene is a plan that arises with clear development goals by 2032, with the main goal of generating 2.5 million quality jobs. To this end, the plan has 6 strategic axes of work that mark the roadmap for the coming years and thus impact the increase in exports, increase in foreign direct investment and consequently the increase in the gross domestic product.

The Guatemala No Se Detiene Plan is supported by an agreement signed between the Government of Guatemala and the private sector. In addition, FUNDESA signed an Interinstitutional Cooperation Agreement with the Municipality of Guatemala that gives life to the Directorate of Support for Productive Investment and Competitiveness. In addition, the agreement of the infrastructure, human capital, legal security, tourism and agro-impact components is signed.
